Australia’s peak export body appoints a new National President.

Lisa McAuley - Wednesday, January 13, 2010

The directors of The Australian Institute of Export appointed Loftus Harris AM National President. Loftus who assumed the role on 1st January comes with a wealth of experience in trade policy, negotiation and facilitation.  Outgoing President Michael Johnson who occupied the position for almost five years said “the appointment of Loftus at a time of strong development particularly in the field of representing exporters to Government is important and timely”. In addition to his Institute role, Loftus sits on the boards of several companies in NSW, Victoria and Queensland as a non-executive director, and holds the appointment of Queensland Special Trade Representative to the Middle East and India. He was Director General of the NSW Department of State and Regional Development for 10 years until late 2007, and, prior to that, of the Queensland Department of the Premier, Economic and Trade Development. He was responsible for government programs covering trade, investment, innovation, tourism, major events and regional economic development. He was a Trade Commissioner for 15 years, serving in West Africa, Asia, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. Loftus is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Loftus said he looks forward to working with the Institute board and team in their endeavour to develop the export skills of Australian business.
