Carbon neutral home designed and built in regional Victoria

Peter Mace - Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Eco Villages Worldwide Pty Ltd has been designing and building energy efficient buildings since 2008. We have just finished building our latest display Eco Pod at our head office in Kangaroo Flat, Bendigo.

This house is the 3rd generation of our Eco Pod buildings which can be used for homes, schools and offices. The homes are rated at 7.5 stars under the First rate energy rating system and come complete with integrated PV solar panels, solar hot water, double glazed windows, compressed straw panels in the walls and ceiling and a cutting edge air conditioning system that uses only 10-20% of the power required for refrigerated air conditioning.

The main drive behind the design of this innovative building is to show Australians, who are one of the largest emitters of carbon dioxide per capita, that they can choose to live, learn and work in buildings that significantly reduce our carbon footprint.

From February 2010 the Eco Pod will be open as a functioning display of a carbon neutral home in regard to the energy cost of heating and cooling over a 12 month period.

Through intelligent design, the use of low energy appliances and the generation of renewable electricity via PV solar panels, we have created carbon neutral home/ office/ school buildings for the future.
